Carefully preserved in the Winterthur Library collection of rare books is Pierre de la Mesangere’s Collection de Meubles et Objets de Gout, published in Paris between 1801 and 1831. The series includes more than 700 hand-colored engravings of furniture, carriages, draperies and other decorative objects. Mesangere’s publication was influential in popularizing the designs of Napoleon’s decorators, Percier and Fontaine. Hickory Chair Company’s artists have adapted a design from Collection de Meubles et Objets de Gout to create this 21st-century ottoman.
