Origins Collection
Over the years, as Phillips Collection traveled the world, the team often came across the half-buried remnants of old trees in the fields and forests of Southeast Asia. Tangled roots and stumps, harvested long ago and abandoned for decades. Interesting artifacts, but with little value until Phillips Collection found the right way to give them a new purpose. They realized they had overlooked an incredibly rare resource. With hard work and commitment, they were able to salvage this wood and use it to create the extraordinary Origins Collection.
Today, Phillips Collection seeks out the perfectly imperfect, turning discarded wood into astonishingly beautiful furniture. The organic curves of wood grain, the depth of a hand-applied finish, the rough beauty of a natural edge: each selected with an artist’s eye. Seat Belt Chairs
The Seat Belt Chair is one of many offerings in this contemporary seating collection by award-winning Thai designer, Nuttapong Charoenkitivarakorn. The design was inspired by the intertwining spools of fabric seen when visiting a seat belt factory. Nuttapong’s striking chairs are easily recognizable by their braided backside and stiletto profile. The straps are woven on a frame made of wood that is reinforced with metal.
There are monochromatic and two-toned versions, each of which is available in many colors. They offer custom color matching for quantities of 16 or more. All of these reflect the ethos that the Phillips Collection personifies: modern organic.
