A Love Letter from Your Home

A thank you note for the fabulous and treasured memories.

Dearest Loved One,ย

Thank you for choosing me as your home. I hope I have given you endless, happy memoriesโ€”and comfort during the not-so-fond ones. I remember the day you and your husband stood at my front door, keys in hand, young and full of excitement as your realtor welcomed you into this new chapter. I remember the worn, beaten-up sofa you struggled to squeeze through the doorwayโ€”the one stained from your cat knocking over mac and cheese. Back then, it was just the three of you, and my rooms felt wide and empty as you began building a life together. Over time, you filled me slowly, bringing home furniture and dรฉcor piece by piece, finding peace and comfort within my walls. ย

I remember you bringing home your first dog and swore he wouldnโ€™t be allowed on the sofa or the bed. That rule didnโ€™t last long. I remember the first Christmas and birthdays you celebrated here, and how excited you were to give your dog his very first present. I remember when you upgraded the sofa to make more room for sharing with your husband and your growing family of pets. I also remember the late nights you slept in the living room when your dog became sick, and the quiet moments when you said your final goodbyes.ย

I remember the long weekends of repainting and wallpapering the spare bedroom. I remember the day you brought home a crib and a new dresser. I remember when you returned with a newborn, young parents unsure of what would come next. I remember the birthday celebrations, the small graduation held in the backyard after kindergarten, and the day you replaced the dining table to make room for two new additionsโ€”officially becoming a family of five. I remember the tantrums, scraped knees, and bumped heads. I remember the late nights you sat together in the wingback chairs by the fireplace, worrying about everything, sharing gentle touches and quiet glances that said, โ€œweโ€™ll be okay.โ€

I remember when your last child moved out, taking her bedroom furniture to furnish her first apartment and begin her own adventure. I remember you standing in the empty rooms, debating what they might become. You wanted guest rooms for your children to return to; your husband dreamed of a space for a boysโ€™ game night. You won that argument. ย

I watched the gray hairs appear and the years settle in, as it became harder to care for me the way you once did. I remember the conversations about what might come next, the next chapter, the next place to call home.ย

Though our time together has come to an end, I want to thank youโ€”for the memories, the laughter, and the tears. Thank you for the early mornings and late nights, for the celebrations, and for finding solace here during lifeโ€™s hardest moments. I will cherish every one of them.ย

With love,ย
