I recently asked a childhood friend how her parents are doing, and she said, “They’re great! My dad retired a couple of months ago, and they are traveling and living life to the fullest. They actually considered moving out of my childhood home, but they installed a fire pit in the backyard, so I think they’ll stick around for a little bit longer.”
How many of your friends, family and neighbors have had similar experiences? Either they decided to move from their homes right before Covid-19 hit, or they realized their home could continue to work for them with a few updates here and there. For those that chose to say in their home, renovating became both a past time and a necessity. Many of those renovations included outdoor improvements because, let’s face it, we spent more time outside trying to get some fresh air than we ever have before.
Because of this, our merchandising team renovated the Furnitureland South OnTrend Gallery to demonstrate how we can use trending outdoor furniture to liven up our outdoor (and sometimes indoor) spaces. Waterfront Views
Inspired by the increase in vacation rentals and a desire for upscale travel, Waterfront Views draws inspiration from bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers and other coastal experiences. In this trend, mixed textures and metals are abundant. Layering comfort pieces (throw pillows, throws and blankets) and natural textures is also a surefire way to create a relaxing waterfront retreat from the comfort of your own home.
Globetrotter
For those with a propensity to become one with nature and have travelled the globe to do so, this design is perfect for you. Warm and inviting colors like espresso, creams, rust and black work together with rustic, earthy outdoor accents to enhance the feeling of travel from your patio. Tribal textiles, terracotta accents and copper lanterns also play a huge role in enhancing this global-inspired design.
Idyllic Dining
You’ll feel like you’re on vacation with the vibrant colors of Greece mimicked right in your backyard! This Mediterranean vibe is established with outdoor entertainment in mind. Incorporating candles, unique and colorful tableware (think teal) and thick, woven materials into this outdoor dining landscape makes for a fun-filled experience your guests will love.
West Coast Casual
Before I visited Southern California for the first time, I envisioned vast palm trees and busy streets with crowded beaches. I was surprised to see a much more relaxed atmosphere, which is something our merchandising team portrayed with the West Coast Casual theme. Just think of how you could be California dreaming with a peaceful outdoor space like this!
Boho Chic
Incorporating Boho Chic into your outdoor landscape is the perfect way to create an inviting escape. All it takes are string lights, plants in containers, purchasing or upcycling rattan lanterns and adding mixed patterns throughout your space. In terms of the Boho Chic color theory, we’re bringing in shades of light blue, peach, cream and grey to give off a light and airy feeling like the sun setting on a beautiful summer day.
