Lee Crutchfield created this soothing blue master bedroom retreat, incorporating a special blend of form and function for his clients. His challenge was to design a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere while balancing his clients' need for added storage in the bedroom.
Lee started with a platform bed by West Bros. that features built-in storage in the footboard and attached nightstands. The upholstered headboard is accented by a built-in lighting feature, adding to the ambiance of the room. A dresser and chest by West Bros. both provide additional storage; their deep wood tones balanced by the soothing, cool blue wall color that Lee selected for the space. Natural elements including wood mirror frames by Phillips Collection, a floor branch screen, and misty tree painting help to create a spa-like atmosphere, emphasizing a natural setting.
Lee added a touch of surprise to the overall design by incorporating a retro-style accent chair beside the bed. His client is an avid reader, and a tufted chair and ottoman by Fairfield Chair paired with a drink table with an agate top detail from Century Furniture create a cozy sitting area. The upholstered bed and Caracole “What’s New Pussycat” Chair offer a clean, white palette with bursts of color and texture provided by the pillows, accessories and rug. Lee selected a beautiful rug by Oriental Weavers to bring all the elements of the room together. For lighting, he incorporated transitional pendants – Lee's favorite choice for creating the mood (and always placed with dimmers). Final touches feature appropriately scaled accessories, which Lee believes should always consist of items that his clients love!
