We all know that the housing market has fallen and our economy is on the decline, so you might be thinking twice about buying that new house. Fortunately, there are some really great ways to make your old home feel like new for much less than the price of a new house. Here are some great tips for changing the look of your home and making it feel new again.
1: Start with a new color for your walls. Take down that old wallpaper and put a fresh color in its place. Just adding a little paint will make a huge difference in any space. Try a color that you haven’t used before - you will be surprised what a little color can do to freshen a room!
2: Change out those tired light fixtures. Take down those shiny brass fixtures and try something in brushed nickel or waxed bronze. Throw out the brass chandelier and replace it with something with a little more style. Take a chance and step out of your comfort zone.
3: The most important change is new furniture. Change out your dark master bedroom furniture for something lighter in scale and color. Get rid of that poor old sofa that looks like your grandmother designed it. Try a different style or color than you have now to freshen up those tired old rooms. Nothing transforms a room like new furniture. You can update the entire house by putting new furniture in each room for much less than you might think (certainly much less than the cost of a new house). And besides, if you had bought that new house, you would want new furniture there as well. This way you save the cost of the new house and get the new furniture anyway!
4: Last but not least, once you have your new furniture, change your window treatments and area rugs to coordinate. New curtains and rugs can make a big statement in your "new" old home. Add a few accessories and you will think you have walked into a new home while saving money. It’s a great feeling to change and update the old friend that has been so good to you over the years.
With these updates you can be proud of the old home and also increase its value for when you do sell. It’s really a win-win situation either way. So pick up that paint brush and pick up your phone. Call me and I will be happy to help you with the choice of colors, new furniture, rugs and accessories. I love nothing better than helping people save money while making their dreams of that beautiful new home come true.
