“Home is a place where we can be silent and still be heard…where we can ask and find out who we are …where sorrow is divided and joy multiplied . . . where we share and love and grow.”

From the time I was a young girl I engaged in many aspects of design – from hand sewing outfits for my Barbie dolls to talking my parents into letting me re-decorate our family home. Mostly, they just let me paint and re-arrange the furniture. But I always loved the new rooms when I was through.
I always thought of design as a career possibility and studied interior design for two years at Columbia College. Then out of necessity I had to go to work. So I spent the next 25 years in the hotel industry in sales . . working in a very fast-paced competitive environment. And continuing to decorate the homes of all my friends and family as a hobby to relieve the stress of my job. In 1997 the company I was working for downsized. So I had to go “find myself”. Finding myself meant discovering that interior design didn’t have to be just a hobby. You could really have a professional, put-food-on-the-table career in interior design. So I opened my own business.
Without having the responsibility of my own business, I would never have known how far I could push myself. When I thought I was at my limit, I found that I could reach deep down and pull out just a little more. In short, it taught me how to work hard - really, really hard.
After 6 years working in my “neighborhood”, I wanted to expand my client base and felt like the best place to grow would be where there the most customers go. Furnitureland South. This is where I have to say that I have the best job in the world. I’m one of the lucky people who gets to do what I love for a living. I am fortunate enough to work in an environment that gives my clients endless choices in furniture, style and price and I am thankful to be supported by more than 500 people who are not only dedicated to what they do, but somehow when things go right, I get all the credit!
