Sustainable, green, eco-friendly, and environmentally friendly are buzz words we are seeing more every day, and the interior design and furniture industry is stepping up to the plate to help conserve our world’s resources. Many of the best-known furniture manufacturers are actively working to find renewable resources and use eco-friendly components in manufacturing processes.
Century Furniture, Trip and Bicker by Sarreid, Harden Furniture, and Kincaid are a few of our product lines actively working to be environmentally sensitive with their raw materials and manufacturing processes. This is being done in several ways:
At Furnitureland South we recently re-merchandised the glass-encased skylink, which connects our main showrooms. Now known as the Eco-Link, it is filled with a variety of products, styles of furniture and accessories, from contemporary to traditional, all constructed with "green" properties. The Eco-Link soothes shoppers and staff alike with the soft sounds of water features, birds quietly singing in the background, and gently moving air which brings to mind the refreshing smell after a Spring rain. We’re all finding it a relaxing walk during our busy days, and one I'm sure you will enjoy it as well.
In recent years it has become apparent that everyone MUST take better care of natural resources since the population is exploding faster than our planet can renew itself. While it's not always practical to exclusively utilize recycled or green products, we can all try to be more aware of our resources. As a designer I will be sensitive to your wishes, and help with selecting the best products available when there is a sustainable option.
The wonderful thing about this from a design perspective is that you can now choose "greener" products that are traditional in style as well as transitional or contemporary. The assumption has long been that to be green or eco-friendly meant limited styles and more rustic products ... not anymore. At home and at work I've begun recycling, re-using, and renewing where practical. I'm up to the challenge of helping make your home beautiful, and also leaving a softer carbon footprint in the future.
