Leather for All Styles and Seasons by Jaime Berg
Appropriate to all styles, leather lends a beautifully sensuous addition to your décor. It is an extremely durable covering that is versatile, popular and affordable. From traditional to contemporary treatments, leather adds a sensory richness unavailable with any other type of upholstery. Leather comes in a multitude of colors, styles and grades so that a broad spectrum of applications is available depending on the desired uses. Selections of style and grade will vary according to lifestyle, users and rooms in which leather furniture is to be placed. For instance, a home with active children will require a different application than in a setting where pure luxury is the top priority. As with any commodity, the rarer the item, the more expensive it tends to be. Leathers with fewer hide imperfections are naturally more expensive, but markings should more properly be considered as revealing distinctive character, thus providing a unique look. No one hide is exactly like another. Top-grain leather provides the most desirable layer for use in home furnishings. It has a denser cell structure that produces strength and, consequently, a more durable covering. These leathers contain natural shade and grain variations, as well. Split-grain leathers are taken from the hide’s underside, are used to make suedes, and are less durable. Most leathers are colored with aniline dyes, which are added during the tanning process, and are permanent. For furniture in high-traffic areas with plenty of use, a protective topcoat can be applied to the leather. In addition, Furnitureland South offers a leather protection program to help preserve the investment you’ve made. The plan covers your new leather furniture against accidental stains and damage, including food and drink spills; ballpoint ink and lipstick; and accidental punctures, cuts, rips and burns. There are many reasons, aside from beauty, why incorporating leather into your home’s furnishings is a wonderful idea. One of them is leather’s excellent temperature adaptation, making it comfortable during the heat of summer and the cool of winter. At Furnitureland South, we have numerous brands and styles of leather furniture – from Natuzzi, specializing in contemporary Italian designs, to Classic Leather and Bradington Young, whose companies showcase more traditional styles. I would be happy to assist you in selecting just the right product(s), so please call or e-mail me to get better acquainted with how to incorporate leather into your home.
