Custom-Designed Traditional Home

When a dear friend called to say that she and her husband were building their last house, Design Consultant Cherry Yount was happy to help! Her friends were getting rid of everything but the master bedroom suite and wanted help with their new custom-built home. Cherry spent hour after hour pouring over the plans with them, making changes based on their “retired” lifestyle. Because they have lots of grandchildren, these homeowners wanted big open spaces with plenty of room for the whole extended family to get together. So they took out a wall here and added one there, and now have, as Cherry’s friend likes to say, “the best place they have ever lived.”

Both husband and wife enjoy a simplistic look with a touch of traditional elements. They love a monochromatic color palette with a little accent of color. In the main space, Cherry used soft taupes, grays and cream in the fabrics and window treatments, as well as darker wood pieces. A chocolate leather chair and ottoman complete the look and help to anchor the room. The fabric selected for the toss pillows on the sofa plays off of the beautiful leaded glass doors and rug, giving a feeling of continuity throughout the space.

The dining room was designed for a big round table to take advantage of the newly enlarged space, and Cherry chose one that was less formal and reflected not only the style of the house, but her friends’ more relaxed lifestyle.

The master bedroom is the quiet, elegant haven that the couple wanted with taupe and cream fabrics and an accent of black. They are delighted with the finished project and the house has become their new home.
