Color Trends

Pick up any design magazine from the last few months and on the cover you will see color schemes that will soon find their way into your closet and home furnishings environment. Color trends grow into fashion statements.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of today's color trends, I attend Color Forecasting classes, subscribe to and spend many hours pouring over home design and fashion magazines. It is important to note which advertisements tend to grab your attention, as these could be the colors that will best fit into your personal living space.

Recently a client sent me her floor plans and several Sherwin-Williams paint color strips as proposals she had chosen for their 10-room golf retreat. After several phone conversations, we narrowed the paint choices for the public and private spaces throughout the house.

Now that I knew the specific colors that would ground each room, my work was to prepare design ideas for the styles, fabric colors and finishes for all the furnishings. To begin the process, I spent several hours perusing my personal issues of Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, Metropolitan Home, etc. I began to get a sense of the current colors I felt would complement the chosen wall colors and design of the home. Page after page would be ripped from the magazine and placed aside, be it an advertisement or furniture design ideas. These pages began to take on a definite direction that would keep this home in fashionable colors for years.

By the time my client arrived for our scheduled appointment, I had prepared a photo collage from the pages of these magazines showing not only furnishings concepts, but prominent colors that would complement the home décor. I even used a skin bronzing advertisement to represent the copper metallic accents to be used throughout the house. My client was able to see at a glance how the style concepts and color schemes that I preselected for her would blend into the home to create the perfect family golf retreat.

If you would like your home to reflect the fashion colors of today's lifestyle, I would be honored to assist you with color selections for your home. Be it cozy cottage or grand estate, the colors and furniture styles we select will reflect your personal panache and be on target with today’s fashion trends ... colors and styles that will continue to excite and please your senses for many years.
