Members of the Charlotte Chapter of the Interior Design Society, sponsored by Lake Norman Magazine, selected Furnitureland South to provide all of the exquisite home furnishings for their 2007 Spring Showhouse, a fund-raiser for Dove House that serves victims of child sexual abuse in Iredell and Alexander counties.
| Proceeds from ticket sales to view this 11,000-square-foot home that evokes the look and feel of a French château are being used to benefit the award-winning, nonprofit Dove House Children's Advocacy Center, which offers a safe and child-friendly residential environment where a team works together to support the investigation, intervention and successful prosecution of reported child sexual abuse cases. The facility is designed to minimize the trauma suffered during the investigation and also ensures that the child and non-offending family members receive the therapy they need to begin the healing process. |

Focusing on historic references to French architecture of the medieval period, the Lake Norman property displays "château chic," incorporating such elements as a turret and arched entries. IDS designers derived inspiration for the interior of this lakeside "castle" from a cavalcade of noteworthy French movers and shakers, including Madame Pompadour, mistress to Louis XV, and Coco Chanel. Even Babar, a popular French children's fictional character makes an appearance!
|
| In the boy's bedroom, the Babar-inspired décor employs lots of cheerful color that appeals to younger children and the "kingly" (Babar was crowned the King of the Elephants) motif can be seen in the crowned cornices over the window and very red twin beds.
For the second-floor guest suite, sumptuous silks and elegant furniture inspired by the prosperity of the Louis XV era display the romance and allure of Pompadourian haute style. As the king's confidante, Madame Pompadour was a woman of high fashion and exquisite taste who enjoyed considerable influence. The furniture and fabrics in this guest suite exhibit the sophisticated, ornamented French style named for her.
From the 18th century to our own, this showhouse displays a wealth of French interior design influences - whether glamorous, elegant, Provençal or fictional - all of which can be seen at Furnitureland South's campus in Jamestown, NC. The company is pleased to have partnered with Lake Norman Magazine and the IDS designers in sponsoring this benefit for Dove House.
